Show Hidden Files and Folders on your Mac

If you need to display all the hidden files and folders that macOS hides by default, there's a simple command to enter in the terminal to do this. Many of these hidden files and folders are related to critical operating system and configuration components and probably should not be modified unless you know what you're doing.

defaults write AppleShowAllFiles YES
killall Finder

If you would like to disable this and go back to allowing the Finder to hide important system files, enter this command in the terminal.

defaults write AppleShowAllFiles NO
killall Finder
